History of the army medical corps from its establishment, 22 April 1778 in Philadelphia, its subsequent movement to West Point, 1778, using the Beverly Robinson house as a hospital while the invalid corps was garrisoned across the river, the founding of the military academy and the development of medical care and facilities at West Point from 1802-1950. This history includes surgeon's reports stressing the need for greater water supplies, adequate lighting in cadet study areas, proper shoes, pest control, and more sanitary conditions in the cadet mess hall. These surgeon's reports also deal with post sanitary conditions, general health care for enlisted personnel and the need for modern medical facilities, information on the building and furnishing of the post hospitals, 1824, 1884 and 1923, hygiene as part of the curriculum, letters from cadets describing their stay in the hospital, list of medical personnel, 1803-1849, with portraits of surgeons at West Point and an historical report on the Department of Military Hygiene.
